Drum and summerfun

The long-awaited drum set for my son:

What you need:
- tins in different sizes (I opened them with the tupperware opener, no sharp edges!), crown caps, wire and nails.
- a three-legged old table upside down
- bit of fantasy
- and a handy grandpa!

While we were listening to the concert outside, there was one little one inside the house:

Caught eating candies!!

A diver and a ladydoll.

These were the words from my son: “You make one thousand dolls for everyone else in the world, and all I asked for is a simple diver, you promised it!”. I must have been a bad mother, because he’s right, I promised a ‘diver’ like he has drawn and I promised my eldest daughter a doll from a patternbook I bought once. Here they are:

Ducky

Oh that girl looks a bit sad and lonesome. Her friend Gilles had already gone and she had to stay alone at home.

But hey, who’s that?

Oh a new friend, that’s a new doll with a duck on his t-shirt!

Custom order for a baby who’s birth announcement was with the theme of little yellow ducks.

A girl and a boy

Girl-doll for a little girl named Mare, it’s an order I got a few weeks ago, but I didn’t have the time to finish her. The girl has 2 big brothers and therefore the doll had to be something very girlish. Is she girlish enough with her long eyelashes and puffed sleeves?

This boydoll is for a little baby Gilles. They wanted a tough boydoll, so I gave him a (fake) crocodile trousers and a big belt. The mother is an interior designer, the fabric with little houses was the best match I could find. The label with his name ‘Gilles’ comes from the birth announcement. I ripped it off the white card and sewed it on his belt. Is he tough, but still sweet enough for a little newborn baby?

There are lots of new things coming up on this blog. I’m working on a new doll-design, a bit smaller, and simpler. More of that in a few weeks.

And there will be another ‘grand changement’ in a few weeks. Another design for this blog, and I’m thinking about writing in Dutch in stead of English (to make things easier for myself..).
So come back soon!

A house under the table

An advantage of making dolls is that you don’t need much fabric. But at the same time it is a disadvantage! Because if you like to sew it means automatically that you like to buy fabric. And if you like to buy fabric, it means that you have piles, boxes and cupboards full of fabric.
Sometimes I feel this urgent need to use A LOT of fabric at the same time, just to get rid of the stock. This weekend, I had one of those days.

I remembered how me made tents under the table when we were kids, with all kinds of blankets and cushions. Why not make a permanent cover for our table of 100 X 240cm?

Atelier Versace? Yes, I guess it must have been an expensive fabric, but I didn’t have any other ideas for it than making a tent. This is the ‘boys-entrance’ with indians on it and the girls-entrance is with a flower fabric. There are little ribbons to tie the door open and it’s all cosy and fun.

But there can only be one boy the eldest, and therefore the chief. The girls had to buy tickets for entering the tent, and soon the fun was over.
This pile of fabric is again in my stock, although there are no more raw edges.

I guess making tents with blankets and pillows is more fun than a prefab tent…
